The NOVA Open has three prizes for hobbyists like myself; Greater than the Sum Award (Best Army Appearance), Well Beyond Crayola Award (Best Single Miniature) and a Miniature Frankenstein (Best Conversion). I really appreciate when tournaments include categories like this as it motivates people to paint their armies and really brings out the best painters in the area. In my earlier post, I showed you all army that won the Greater than the Sum Award. Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of the Miniature Frankenstein but I do have my model that won Well Beyond Crayola. When the judges came by to ask for my best painted figure, I wasn’t sure which model to turn as I had not really prepared for this part of the competition (next year will be different however) and I grabbed that I knew had a higher standard of painting than the rest.
I’m really proud of this model. I managed to add detail even to the flat parts of the model and got the Sept markings straight and bright. I’m pretty sure I can do better though. Looking closely at the model I can see there are areas that I was lazy. I'm hoping to go back over this guy and fix some spots I'm not happy with. He still won me a trophy so what more can I ask!
I won a box of Blood Angels Death Company, a 20 dollar gift card to the Warstore and a set of modeling flock from Gale Force 9.The trophy was the best part and I have placed on my painting desk as a proud reminder. Next year I want to be sure to claim the Greater than the Sum Award with no contest so watch out, Eric!

Congratulations! A well-earned award indeed!
That is some impressive painted on battle damage!
Beautifully painted model. Especially love the detail on the lens. Congrats!
nice model, congrats!
Very nice model. Your prize was well deserved.
way to go, badass!
Great looking model mate, well done! Like the jump pack!
Well deserved OSH! Wish I could see the model in person, models are always more impressive in real life.
You certainly would have won the 'Not Just A Pretty Place' Award for the best display board. It's first class! And I absolutely love the Tau recruitment poster, very Starship Troopers. How did you create it?
Beautiful and well deserved. I especially like the chips and damage, very nice.
Thanks all!
@Rus'El
It is a poster I found online. I copied it to a word doc, then shrunk it down and printed it on a color printer. it took less then 5 minutes. Then I simply glued it to the storage crate. Done!
Definitely a well deserved award, I'd say. Wonderful painting and nice, subtle conversions.
Nice model. And terrain. Especially the combination of terrain and model make some great images. And congrats on the award, btw.
