Eldar Titan accompanies Tau to Battle: 10,000-Point Apocalypse Battle Report

This past weekend 6 players joined for a big game of 10,000 points. It was my first real Apocalypse game and I really had a lot of fun even though we got ourselves a good kicking. Our opponents loaded up on tanks and mechanized everything, then took the strategic asset, Flank March, which allowed them to deploy reserves from any table edge. On turn 2, our backs were broken by Space Wolves and Imperial Guard attacking our flanks and rear, knocking out our main Broadside Railgun Battery. There was simply no way to avoid our lines getting wrecked by flanking forces. The next time we play, I am not leaving home without the disruptor beacon asset, which allows you to place enemy reserved units on a 4+. That'll make them think twice about deploying behind me!

One unit that I had been itching to try out was a 5-strong unit of piranhas with fusion blasters, disruption pods, flechettes and targeting arrays. This unit was able to shrug off a lot of damage due to the constant 4+ cover save granted by the pods or by moving flat out. It didn't cause as much damage as I had hoped, but the game only lasted 2 and 1/2 turns so it's too early to condemn it. I'm going to be using this unit in another game soon as I see it as our answer to an uber-distraction unit.

Most of the terrain in this game was done by yours truly. We loaded one side of the board with city ruins to encourage an infantry battle there, while tanks raged on the plains. It was quite a spectacle with a gigantic Eldar Phantom Titan showing up on turn 2.

Nice to see the wrecked Aquila terrain getting used.

Loved the fly throughs.

The shot from the tank to the titan was sweet!

Very cool; I have to say, I appreciated the music. It wasn't the standard 'loud 'n proud' I've come to expect from 40K videos.

Nice at 5am...

I wish I could go Andrew but when I saw the price tag I quickly decided not to. It would be great to be there with you guys. I'm sure I'll see you all at GD next year.

I really need to finish painting that Titan before the next battle.
