WTF?!?!: What the heck happened to these?

Some of you may know that I am currently building and painting a Warriors of Chaos army. One of the things I find really odd is the plastic Daemon Prince model that was never released. There are pictures all over the Army book and even in the build-up to the release, the plastic Daemon Prince was posted as an army preview. What the hell happened? The Daemon Prince could be used for three different armies, Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons and Warriors of Chaos.
Come to think of it, what the hell happened to that Kroot Shaper in the BRB?

I have actually been wondering the same thing about the demon prince, Its kinda annoying how they have an entire page devoted to them in the army book, and then don't come out with them..well, heres to hoping.

That's kind of funny. I've been thinking the same thing for about 2 weeks while I've been working on a WoC army...I feel like the moulds have to be done just because there are two of them, assembled and painted.

I would _really_ love that kit though...and those plastic Plaguebears.

I've been waiting for the kit for... a long time now. I assumed that, you know, it'd be part of a second wave of daemon minis: plastic DP, plastic plague bearers, plastic horrors.

It's never materialized, though, which is EXTREMELY annoying.

I finally went ahead and build my DPs out of the new Minotaurs w/ Tyranid wings.

This post spurred me to scour the internets, and I found...nothing. I was playing Daemons at the time all the "Second wave!" and "OMG! Daemon Prince of plastic!" stuff started, so I followed it for a while. First it was Summer '09, then Winter '09, now it's "Early 2010".

I imagine in a month or two it will turn into Summer 2010, then Winter 2010....until it's released or forgotten about. Fail rumor mill...

huge fail by GW.

Maybe...some of the reports are "They broke the mold and haven't made a new one." It doesn't seem likely and there isn't any real proof other than someone saying it that isn't affiliated with GW and claiming they "have a friend". This rumor shows up in a few places, but I imagine it's complete garbage, just for lack of substantiation.

I'm with you though, hugely disappointing to not have it yet with no real information. It really bugs me to see something in a codex/army book that I can't buy and that is obviously a kit, not a conversion.

Yep, the daemon prince went to the warp and never came back... (have you seen the other config of this daemon prince? the armored one, i mean, i think he was in the same preview as the one in the photo).

And i think this shaper is a conversion, but i´ll love a kroot sprue that allows this kind of dynamic poses...

Definitely a weak move in my view. If the mould was completed (and this model wasn't a painted master sculpt) then I can't see a good reason for not making the model.

An oft-mentioned figure is 100,000 pounds plus for a metal injection plastic mould. This is a cost that is already sunk and won't get any recouping unless the model is actually released and sold. Admittedly, adding boxes, distribution and retail space for the model would have a cost, but simply selling it would help recoup that. With four armies (Chaos Marines, WFB daemons, 40k daemons and WOC) that could use this model, I think it would sell more than well enough to recoup the investment.

Of course, if somebody did drop the big metal mould and it broke then that would be a different story....but 2" thick steel moulds won't break easily.

What's bugging me right now is that some models I want are direct order only (i.e. Typhus, CSM HQ) but others of the same model and game type (i.e. Lucius the Eternal, Huron Blackheart) are available from regular stores. Why do models of the same size, same packaging and same game style have to be so different? Sadly GW will not get my money for Typhus now as paying full price doesn't work for me with all of the good internet stores out there.

PS: Anybody with a Typhus model they don't want, please get in touch.

Did you know typhus was a disease? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typhus

I see him on ebay and such a lot, so maybe just keep your eyes open and you'll get lucky?

Also, the argument was that they use aluminum moulds because they're cheaper, but they break easier. I can see how that could be true, but you'd have to chip the inside in some fairly major way, which shouldn't really be possible unless you drop something heavy on it or...something. I don't know. I feel like the "broken mould" idea isn't what's really going on.

The reason I think they're from a mould and not a master is because the two princes in the WoC book have the same arms, legs, and body. The legs and body are even in the exact same pose. (as is the left arm? slightly different angle)

The other prince, for those that don't have the WoC book.

well, though I don't know anything about the Daemon prince, I think that kroot shaper was 'Special Event Only' model
