Inner Circle Tournament: 1850 Army List

Here is the list I am bringing to the Tournament this weekend. I was debating whether to post this or not. but given as how we need to present our opponents with army lists before games, I figured it wouldn't matter. I've played a few games with this army and I happy with the results. Plenty of fire-power and lots of mobility. The only static unit is the Broadside Team.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer-dy.

Haha, just kidding. It looks like a tight lists, but I'm surprised at the lack of Pathfinders. Maybe? I'm not sure at the moment, as I haven't had coffee yet. Also, find ten points to give that last Piranha a cloak.

Looks good OSH, but my only concern is the Devilfish without Smart Missile Systems. This means that for every pair of drones that are destroyed, you give away an additional Kill Point.

For what I want out this list, there is no room for SMS on the Devilfish. I understand why the drones pose a problem but in this tournament kill points work a bit differently so it doesn't really matter. I normally reserve my devilfish anyway so this hasn't been a problem in recent games. Plus you still have to break throuhg and destroy an AV12 vehicle that almost always gets a 4+ cover save...

Adam, how's your space wolves army shaping up? it must be fun to play a different army that can actually fight in CC after playing Tau for so long eh?

I too was wondering why there was a single Piranha without a disruption pod; but if you're strapped for points.....
Hmmm, kill points or extra units in drones? Having observed many of your videos and batreps, I would say keep your list as it is OSH.

You seem confident enough to know when to attack and how to get the best out of your drones. And I think it'll be too much too late, being so close to the tourney to start juggling units and points around.

Did you make a second list too? or just this one? Oh, and I see you ditched the Kroot too!!!

Best of luck mate!

I'm really interested to see how Sidestriker works out. I feel like he's just such a target.

Do you ever actually use the flamers on the Deathrains? or are they just cheap with "potential" use.

It is very similar to your other lists, but I like the changes. It seems like it's going to punch really really hard. :)

@Dhinanta

I always use a flamer on my crisis teams, but I mostly play guard - deathrain works a treat.

@OSH

Having only recently found your blog, it is nice to see someone who also fields a group of mobile fire warriors, here people seem to field a static gunline despite the serious failures inherent. I also love the hammerhead setup, I often field three with no broadsides using the fusion cannon turret from forgeworld as a distraction coupled with a piranha attack wing.

Also, what do you think of XV9s? At my local GW, there is a lack of enthusiasm for FW in the non-staff and as a consequence they are often disallowed for games.... I think they are expensive, but after the way they functioned in my last game (2500, DoW CaC) I think they are invaluable!

Love the blog Btw...

Great comments here as always. fellas. I've got a lot to say as regards to the list so I'm just going to be a little random about it.

Kroot did get ditched as I decided I like instilling the fear of railguns in the enemy rather than the fear of cannibal chickens with beat-sticks :P

In the past few games, I have really been liking hte amount fire power this list can pump out, while at the same time, staying mobile and fast when I need to be (thanks to my daring piranha pilots). The drones aren't much of a concern as far as kill-points. I've been playing mind tricks with people about how "oh my god they are easy killpoints< why didn't they FAQ that?, wah wah wah"---then having my opponents spend lots of time and energy knocking out my devilfish, AV 12 vehicles with Pods...not as easy a target as you thought, eh? HAHA! So it kind works to my advantage.

This list is actually packed with durable units. I am often surprised by the amount of firepower I can weather and then dish out. Sidestriker leaps from unit to unit, he's never out in the open alone actually.

I gotta say I am disappointed that most players will not play against FW stuff. When you look at it closer they really aren't that powerful as people assume. Man I would love to field the Fusion Blaster turret on my Hammerheads!!! and an XV9 or two! Never played them though so I can't really speak to that.

I've proxied the XV9s a few times. As a full unit of 3 they decimate hordes of Tyranids. Against Space Marines and Daemons they weren't as effective, but they were still completely worth taking. I can't wait for the new weapon options to get released...

I'm really hoping they incorporate the FW turrets and the XV-42s in a future codex. The XV9s will depends a lot on the weapon options. Still anxious about the XV6s that are supposed to be out "before christmas". All I've heard is that it's supposed to exist >.<

@OSH
You mean you have Sidestriker hop between units? That would actually make a lot more sense, but I hadn't considered it.

Tim said...

Yeah, sidestriker joins units to bolster leadership if I am expecting a lot of shots. He will generally start the game with the broadsides and then move to the deathrains as I start to re-deploy...

@Dhin

I was in a Gamesworkshop yesterday, and apparently they won't be seen for a while - the store manager is good friends with the guy writing rules with them and aparently we have to wait until after the next IA book.

@OSH

The fusion turret is a good laugh, it regularly takes out terminators and tanks, a few matches ago a lucky scatter took out my housemates converted terminator commander (very fluffy story behind it) and his landraider with the explosion taking out another termy. That was a laugh.
I also agree with the use of the Shas'el, mine (Fireknife/ helios) runs around like a headless chicken from cover to cover. I hadn't thought of unit to unit...

I have found that the XV9s are still lacking in survivability for their cost though, the only real option is taking them as a unit of 3 w/ gun drones and using them as a mop unit like my stingwing, running away when ness. I do play Iron Warriors a lot though, maybe that has something to do with them dying quickly!

I'm excited to see you your army does! maybe i'll get to face you and get to stomp your face in. Also, i think your command squad is 11 points cheaper than when you have written. there's the D-Pod for your piranha!

Tim said...

I think I am going to audit this list before tomorrow...about the third Pod on the piranhas. It's actually not needed as long as I keep the other two out of 12 inches from shooters. BRB states that if 50% of the Vehicle Squadron is obscured the entire squadron gets a cover save. I just have to be clear which one does not have a pod, the guy with glasses I think.

Sholto said...

You should have good fun with that list - it has plenty of killiness, durability and mobility.

There will be batreps, yes? :)

Hey love your work just wondering how you would scale down this list to 1000pts?
