A New Way of War

Recently I have been moping around, looking for a new army to do. You all helped out greatly in making me realize that Space Marines are not it. I'm firmly in the Xenos camp.

If recent rumors are true, we've got about 8 months at least until a new Tau Codex comes out, but I'll wager it won't be until 2012 that we see it hitting the shelves. I've got loads of stuff I want to see in the new codex and releases. First and foremost is a complete redux of the Tau Fire Warrior, as they are without a doubt one of my favorite plastic kits in the current range. Second would be a new Crisis Suit model. The current set quite simply doesn't stand up to what's out there now. It lacks detail, looks boxy and needs extensive conversion work to increase the coolness factor. But that is for another post....

With the Tau release still a long way off and the Ogre Army Commission nearing completion, I've got the entire summer and fall to work on something new.

I've got an army list, I've got a few boxes of models. I've got a paint scheme. It's not Dark Eldar, it's not Space Marines of any type, nor is it bug-like in any way, but it is going to feature these models extensively:

That's right. Old Shatter Hands is getting on the Counts-As Bandwagon. This time it's something along the lines of a very darkly-lit Way of Saim Hann...

You could always do a Chaos Space Marine army...just saying.

I actually would say that isn't going too far towards counts-as. They look similar enough to eldar that it shouldn't make much difference. And you are still able to keep WYSIWYG with everything still being Eldar(ish).

Good luck on the army! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

Stick with the Tau mate.
I'd build a set of magnetised battlesuits if I were you.

Welcome to the Pointy-Ears brigade!

Heh, that's somewhat hypocritical of you Adam.... anyway I'm glad you chose eldar. Keep the tau posts coming though!

I love the idea of doing Eldar with the new models. The reaver jetbikes are definitely my favorite of that line.

IIRC eldar jetbikes can be taken as troops right? Any ideas for a list?

Eldar Jetbikes are troops, yes...list is as follows

Farseer on bike, fortune, runes of witnessing and warding.
7 warlocks with destructor, embolden and enhance.

6x 3 jetbikes with shureiken cannon.

3x Vypers with cannon.

3X fire prisms.

Should be fast, mean and delicate...

That looks like a fun and different list to play against.

Let me know if you want to throw some dice with a proxy list if you want to hone a bit before spending cash.

I'm planning to magnetise my Crisis Suits and sit some money aside for the future codex.
My Flesh Tearer jumper list is already looking worried about Vindicare Assassins popping off my Sang Priests.

I think you should do a Exodite or Corsair army.

Eldar have the potential for lots of nice conversions.

Oh, it's you, Bob... said...

Look at all those bikes! Now, where did I put my Hydra....

This army is going to be great, OSH and I look forward to seeing pics of it in time.

Who knows, by the time I get back to the states I might be able to bring out a slinky deathwing force to play against your not-dark Dark Eldar army ;-)

With the fire prisms and vypers are you going to model them to look more like the Dark Eldar models you're using for the other pieces?

Tim said...

Yeah, the Vypers and Fire Prism will be modeled to look very Dark Eldar. The Vypers will also double as venoms when I eventually build it out to be a cross-over army.

Sounds like a plan. The new fire prism kit is really nice. I got one for my friend for his birthday and even got to put it together for him. Nice lines and very well designed.

Are you going to consciously build it out as a crossover army or just model it so that it can be played with either codex?
