Secrets of the Fio'la: The XV-22

At the request of Old Shatter Hands himself, the Fio'la have been tinkering away at the protoype xv-22 battlesuit. The project has taken the work of three Fio workdomes and combines metal alloys and minerals harvested from planets scattered across the Empire. Some whisper that this project is indicative of the indulgence of Old Shatter Hands and his command-structure. Others feel the revolutionary battlesuit design befits a warrior of his age, stature and grizzled experience...

I've recently made a few changes to the model. Alas, no paint yet, but as you can see, the jump pack has been added. This is a simple conversion; I've just used a Stealthsuits pack and added some "gubbins" to bulk it out slightly. The fuel canisters on either side of the jet pack are made from ammo canisters from burst cannons and the aerial is from a Crisis Suit  multitracker.

The arms were perhaps the most time consuming. I had to saw Shadowsun's arms just above the elbow and dug out some of the excess metal. I then trimmed down some Stealthsuit arms and pinned them to the Shadowsun's shoulders.Once I had them pinned into a position I liked. I used green stuff to fill in the gaps and make the arms one piece.

After some time, looking at the helmet I had built before. It was looking somewhat off. There was something goofy about it; he was chinless! So I went in a gave it a chin as you can see here.

I hope to have paint on this model soon but next up, is the base. Coming soon.

Saw this in person and it's looking very tasty. Maybe for the missile pod, you should use a bit of green stuff and sculpt it instead of using bits. That way you could get the right shape for it to sit over the shoulder.

Pete, I had a flash of inspiration last night. the markerdrone has this little sensor array that does underneath the maid disc. That could be modeled up to be made into a pod and would be the right size too.

that model looks awesome! keep up the good work.

Good thinking OSH. You totally owe me now for making you dig through your bits collection ;-)

I'm very tempted to get a shadownsun and make up a model like this too.

Great looking suit there OSH! I really like the use of parts on the Plasma Rifle, even a bit of Necron tech I see.

All of the alterations look spot on and there's not much I would change. The only thing I might consider though would be the bit of rubble Shadowsun stands on. It just stands out as 'those are Shadowsun's legs' if you know what I mean. For my own O'Shovah model I made it look like a rock (I'm not into enemy/terrain specific bases) and it kind of worked. Maybe you could remove it altogether?

I am always impressed by your modelling and painting skills OSH. I can't wait to see this one completed like all of the rest of your projects.
However, I have some slight concerns about the helmet. Maybe it's the angles of the pictures vs how it looks in real life, but the helmet to me seems umm,.. maybe too tall and narrow? It doesn't seem to match the lines of the body of the armor. There is a contrast there.
Just for the sake of playing with options, how does the Shadowsun armored helmet look on it with your other additions? Does it still fit?
Based on your other suits and their appearances, I am thinking that perhapse a helmet more similar in appearance to the XV-89 that you use so much might work better on this. If you can think of a way to maybe round off that helmet you made and add some green stuff to the sides to create a similarity with the XV-89 head, that could look better.

Do you have other options yet that you are still considering, or are you set on the head as it is built right now? The rest of the model looks slick. Just something about the head seems to contrast with the rest of the suit. What about modding a head based on a firewarrior helmet or old Xv-15 Head? Maybe I'll sketch something up and email it to you for food for thought.

@ Rus'El: Yea the necron gauss flayer bit is like OSH's signature on his suits, like the Ta'el Head. You can always spot an OSH suit if it has that addition. ; )

I think he should Patent the design to keep others from steeling it. We should coin it as the Shatterhands pattern weaponry.

Looking pretty sweet there OSH. Is it representing your Commander?

Very very nice conversion... but I´m a bit anoyyed... in your hands (old and shattered) this kind of conversions seems too easy, but in mine... a totally diferent tale :D

I cannot wait till you show it painted.

Oh, by the way... I´m building a commander with plasma rifle and missile pod, and I´m using the Space Marine drop pod missile launcher, it is a bit bulky, but with a pair of cuts it matches perfectly the cubeness and bulk of a crisis suit commander.
