I just picked up the Tau codex today and, WOW you ain't kiddin'!

Those players that gave Tau a hard time as the cute little blue aliens are about to suffer some serious hurt.

Uh oh! I was reading through the Tau codex and noticed a HUGE oversight.

The book doesn't differentiate anywhere that I can see the difference between infantry, Crisis suit, and vehicle ranged weapons. They lumped them all together in a "ranged weapons" category. By the book's rules, a Crisis suit or commander can carry 3 rail guns, as in the hammerhead railguns.

HQ:
Commander: "May take up to four items from the Ranged Weapons and/or Support Systems lists."

XV8 Crisis team:
"Any Crisis Shas'ui may take up to three items from the Ranged Weapons and/or Support Systems lists."

Games Workshop already released a FAQ for the codex, but this wasn't in it, yet. They really should fix this, but until then I say, CHEESE IT UP!! HAHA Get some revenge, and mount the big guns on your suits, and make your enemies cry!

Awesome stuff Tim. I'm looking forward to playing against the Tau on the table in the near future. Also I can't wait to see a Riptide painted in your cadre's colours :-)

The ranged weapons and support systems references the table at the start of the army list. So no you cannot put giant guns on models not meant to take them.

I had already assumed that they intended that, but the book does not point to that table on page 95 in the army list building subsections. I think it probably should, because most people would look at the unit choices and automatically flip to the chart at the back of the book, since it stands out with it's different paper stock.

So yea, you're right of course, but it probably should be spelled out instead of assumed.
